Why not explore Darwin's home patch, and follow in his footsteps with the following self-guided trails:

 

Downe Valley Trail


This trail takes you through some of the areas familiar to Charles Darwin along the Downe Valley. Explore the many species he studied in this area that are sill existing today.

This trail leads you around the places familiar and important to the work of Charles Darwin and his neighbour Sir John Lubbock. Explore the area where Lubbock learnt much about natural history from Darwin.

Keston & Holwood Trail


This trail takes you through some of the many varied habitats important to Darwin's work. Explore these habitats and the different plants and animals still existing today that he studied for his scientific work.

High Elms Country Park Local Nature Reserve Trail


Much of the 200 acres of High Elms Country Park is a Site of Special Scientific Interest because the chalky soil supports species-rich grassland where rare orchids grow and its ancient woodland is home to endangered dormice. Explore in detail the area where Darwin and Lubbock carried out some of their scientific work.
